Well, my first thought was how the hell does she know and why can't we have multiple soul mates. Any way, the man's girlfriend started sobbing uncontrollably while the man looked away from her with a hardened look on his face, and it broke my heart.
Why would anyone take the word of a so called psychic to make important decisions about their life? They should listen to their hearts rather than the bullshit of some
mentally ill attention seeker!

Oh yes I'm glad someone said this. Unrealistic expectations play a huge part. Some people expect their " soul mate" to be perfect in every way. For those who don't know, no one in real life is that way. We all have flaws and no one is perfect. Yet through the media or some other means people have become convinced that it is okay to turn away a possible love connection because the individual is not the ideal person they had in mind. Thus a relationship that could have lasted a long time never even begins.

I'd say the same unrealistic expectations exist for men...sleeping beauty (hmmm) and all that.

Yes, excellent point, 'cept maybe not so much 'sleeping beauty' as hot dumb blonde in a bikini
Sure, let's say that, but with intellect sleeping and needing a rescurer.
Let me ask my wife.
"She believes that there are people who get along better than others, pretty much what a soul mate is."
Well how romantic dear.
No, it is bs.
If you are fortunate you will love the person you are with, treat each other well, and trust and grow.
Maybe build a family, or at least build a life together. Standing hand in hand facing or embracing the world together is all you really need.
I turned myself to consider wisdom and madness and folly
The wise man’s eyes are in his head,
But the fool walks in darkness.
Yet I myself perceived
That the same event happens to them all.
