We found a ladybug inside a few weeks ago, it was already getting colder so we didn't want to throw it out so we just put it on a potted plant and forgot about it. Well, she (yeah they're all ladies lol) showed up again tonight in our kitchen so I put it in a jar and used a toothpick to put little dots of honey in it, a little piece of a plant wrapped in some kleenex soaked in water and she immediately started eating! yay.gif Hope she lives to see spring so she can play in our backyard chuckle.gif

I'm not a bug fan, but ladybugs are cute! beercheer.gif

We were talking about where the term ladybug came from, so I looked up the word http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=ladybug
1690s, from lady + bug. The "lady" is the Virgin Mary (cf. German cognate Marienkäfer). In Britain, now usually ladybird beetle (1704), through aversion to the word bug, which there has overtones of sodomy.

I wish. We get probably hundreds of thousands in our house every winter.

Lady bugs can live 2-3 years. Unfortunately, they always return to their birthplace to lay eggs. Maybe, if Randy turns out to be Rhonda, you can keep it alive long enough to lay and then they will always return.

Do you guys normally get Ladybugs that far north? I didn't think they went that far north.

Can you believe the habitat range of those bugs? They are mans second best friend for certain.
A lifespan of 2-3 years? wtf2.gif That's a better bet than a guinea pig, and I hate them more than pelicans. drinking.gif

You'll find bird cherry trees in the corners of old field out in the farm country because they usually get the bugs that ladybugs eat and they'd keep your crop pest free as well cheers.gif Awesome how things worked back then 13.gif
