What's that strange smell

Went outside to get the mail. There was a strangest smell in the air I've ever smelled in my life.

I can't even describe it other than it was unpleasant. It smells like NOTHING I've ever smelled. You know how smells can take you back to a time or place. That's because we remember smells for a lifetime.

But in 63 years, I've never smelled something like this. It was different. The odor didn't resemble anything. I can't say, "Well it smelled sort of like this or that," because it didn't.

I did look up briefly to see if there were any chem trails, but didn't see anything.

Has anyone else smelled anything recently that was unlike anything else they have ever experienced where it just didn't have any familiar notes?

Pray for me. hug.gif

Thanks, Seattle here, glad it's not just me. I sniffed around, took the trash out, sprayed deodorizer, couldn't get rid of it. It is definitely stronger outside, and very unpleasant. It's not an odor I can identify.

Could be some sort of factory or plant nearby venting. dunno.gif

Life is like a penny, you can spend it on what you like, but you can ONLY spend it once.

I was getting an unusual odor Thursday and Friday. The weather has been pretty shitty since then and I have been inside since. Like you, I couldn't identify the smell.

How strange. Can you describe it at all? Was it chemical, metallic or organic?

About a week ago I smelled something. But it smelled like rotting flesh and it wasn't my garbage. I could never pinpoint where it was coming from. So, either a rat died in the wall or I have experienced the same thing the poster has.

There was kind of a sour milk smell to it as well.

Yeah.... Rotten flesh and sour milk.

Yeah. It's gone now. Only stuck around for a day or two.

Well that's good. It's disturbing to smell something unidentifiable.

It was a chemical smell as opposed to organic. The odor was so different from anything I've ever smelled before it's difficult to say even if it were more chemical or metallic.

That's the thing that sets the odor apart from other things. It's a completely new smell.

There is both a paper mill and a chemical company. I've been here 14 years and know those smells that occur when there is a low cloud cover.

Maybe it's a new chemical, but odd that it would appear for the first time on a Saturday night and with no low cloud cover. The odors are far different than the ones they have used before.
