^yeah damnit.. that happened to me on 2nd day & why i lost that one..
thought i had a fish on,then thought no,was stuck, then yeah it was a pike & it managed to get free when it suddenly zagged like that

yeah & doesn't make sense.............

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrarchidae

for instance small mouth bass don't look like perches or sunfish
&
large mouth bass don't look like perches or sunfish
&
perches don't look like sunfish

then there's hybrids..

and then there's the pan fish definition..

...the only thing in common by all is the 'ray-finned fish' part

imo..they need to start over & redefine properly  chuckle.gif

Have no fear!
This explains everything:

I hope there's not going to be a test on this. blink.gif

We're avoiding the whole fishing sector and have hot-wings. We had some thunderstorms sweep by that took the temps down to comfy so we're actually using the oven for the first time in weeks

It's been quite a while since I've had a large mouth bass at the end of my rod.  chuckle.gif

They're quite common in the UK but never caught one worth keeping. They get larger in the north.

They're so fkn good! It's even worth it to fillet 50 small ones and fry in butter even if it takes hours. drool.gif They're extremely good smoked as well.

Synchronicity btw... On today's local paper was a tutorial on how to fillet a pike. I'm not going to translate it, but there were pics:
