Not cultivated blueberries, maybe wild blueberries.

Yes bilberries are wild blueberries that grow around here. Natively we call them blueberries so I refer to them as such.

Blueberry” has become a universal name for blue-coloured berries of the Vaccinium family. Though the term blueberry is widely used, it is still good to know the difference between blueberries (often American Blueberries) and bilberries (European Blueberries) both in naming and characteristics.

WOW
You're really fortunate.
I really miss decent Northern pike and Bluegills.
We don't have many of those in the PNW.

yeah that's puny..
that's too bad..

the bluegills here are keepers & put up a damn good fight ..making them fun to catch plus are tasty
Identification
A member of the very large sunfish family, bluegills frequently interbreed with other members of this family, making hybrids somewhat confusing to identify. Like all members of the sunfish family, bluegills have a very round, pan-shaped profile. True bluegills are the largest sunfish, growing to 4 to 8 inches in length and a half pound in weight on average.
Perhaps its most distinguishing feature is the dark blue tab or “ear flap” at the rear edge of the gill cover.

yeah & doesn't make sense.............

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrarchidae

for instance small mouth bass don't look like perches or sunfish
&
large mouth bass don't look like perches or sunfish
&
perches don't look like sunfish

then there's hybrids..

and then there's the pan fish definition..

...the only thing in common by all is the 'ray-finned fish' part

imo..they need to start over & redefine properly chuckle.gif

Ooo, I love me some pike! They're nice to catch too when you first think the lure got stuck at the bottom. Then they rush in the opposite direction.
