I love canaries, I think they're really pretty and their song is lovely. I do however dislike the idea of keeping a bird in a cage, that's just sadness to me. So he would have to be flying around freely in the apartment. It could work, but I don't think it's fair to the birds. If you were born to fly, would you want to be kept in a box?

Also, define good pet? I don't know how cuddly canaries are or if you even want that in a pet.

Friend of mine is involved in bird rescue, she has 4 abused parakeets atm. She says people don't know what they're getting into with birds and often are sorry they did. They don't expect the level of noise and the smell. I wouldn't.

No I wouldn't either. Mason loves the little birds though. He comes up to me begging me to lift him up so we can check them out at the bird feeder together. chuckle.gif

Yes they are great pets, we have two of them. Real tame and friendly and They fly around the house and land on our shoulders. Heres a tip: If you get one, takes its food and water away about 1/2 an hour before you let them out the cage. chuckle.gif

You have to be pretty skilled to catch a swallow midair. damned.gif

I don't think Mason would try to catch one, he just want to give them kisses. chuckle.gif He found Peepers, that little seagull baby a couple of years back and he didn't do anything to it, just alerted us to him. He hates magpies with all his being though. lmao.gif

Inka is a little savage and probably the most agile dog ever. Wasps, swallows, mice, gophers, she kills them all with prehistoric glee. chuckle.gif

I certainly like birds and feed and observe the wild ones outside, but to own one, I don't know about that. I understand some birds bond with only one human and peck all the rest. That's not right. wtf2.gif
