I'm writing a screen play. THAT pays.

They say the best way to make a small fortune in the book business is to start with a large one.

What about writing for the love of the subject matter!

I have a couple of books in the early stages of planning, one on modern traveling, more of a guide/reference book, the other is like an adventure journal. I'm doing it because while planning my EU trip, most books I bought on the subject were out of date/aimed at a geriatric audience, plus it'll give me something to keep me busy all those nights in a tent.

If I get myself a book deal, I'd just take whatever money I get up front to carry on my journey and send any book sales to various European homelessness charities.

Go for it and realize your dream.

President Lincoln's two secretaries, Nicholay and Hay, spent 20 years putting together an inside look at Lincoln in the WH. The 10 volume encyclopedia sold only 7,000 copies. But it is, no doubt, the best record of Lincoln's presidency.

They later produced a one volume summary which sold a half a million copies.
