I wouldn't have guessed the sun was so strung up there.

It all makes sense now

This just happened to me a few minutes ago. A friend of mine seems to be mentally normal in most ways, despite a brain bleed 18 months ago from a car accident.

She doesn't use the internet, but when she orders from Swanson Vitamins, I get an email about her order. Today's special is $30 off any $100 or more order and $15 off for any order of $65 or more. Today, she placed two separate orders totaling $168 with each order being about $84, thinking she would get the higher discount. In fact she though she'd get $60 off!!

When the email arrived of course she was given $15 off twice, not $15 + $30 or $60.

It's arithmetically possible for her to place one order for just over $100 and a separate order for just over $65 to get a total discount of $45 ($30 + $15.) Swanson does allow placing separate orders from the same address to do just that.

I tried a half dozen times in different ways to tell her that according to the email, her discounts totaled only $30, but she could get an additional $15 by changing the orders. Or she could cancel and start over making sure she hit the target amounts for the maximum discounts.

Despite the email confirmations staring back at me contradicting her, my friend insisted she had gotten $60 off.

Update: I called Swanson for her due to her physical limitations to see if the matter could be resolved. It turns out that Swanson had further reduced the prices of each line item for her when she placed her order. Her gross total order was almost $198 Rather than the $168 that Swanson's emails to me had indicated, although that amount was reflected nowhere in the emails sent to me. Since she was so close to qualifying for two $100 purchases they gave her $30 off twice by hiding additional discounts in each item listed. My injured friend did not tell me this.

IOW, they gave her $60 in discounts!

This proves once again that I'm the village idiot. But if you can give me a badly needed discount, my village idiocy would be upgraded to Below Average.

There will be a public flogging tomorrow at high noon. Ya'll are invited to attend. Vendors will be offering discounted Mint Juleps to welcome in the unofficial start of the Fall Season. Be sure to say "Hi" either to my front end or my back end.

After this encounter we've decided to let her handle all the higher math budgetary matters. Not sure if she received a free lipstick with her order - women do that, doncha know!

Can you ask yourself "Why do I love discovering how my protons can experience Loving Kindness?"

Thanks for your post. It leads me to ask, "Why do I love discovering how my protons can experience Loving Kindness?"

Since you asked, the story was an example of how some people have trouble grasping simple points. And then the story turned around with a surprise ending sort of like "The Sixth Sense" with me being a dead man walking.
