Splitting a log requires a surprising amount of force, but Finnish inventor Heikki Kärnä has invented a new kind of axe that makes it much easier and safer.

Yes, axes have existed since time immemorial, but apparently there’s still room for improvement.
[...]
If you want this crazy physics-exploiting axe, it’s going to cost you. The base price is €193.12 in EU countries, including VAT.

Ingenious but more of a splitter than an axe, the other genius element was the use of the tire in the video.
The real test is how it performs in the Zombie Apocalypse.

chuckle.gif Okay then. At any rate, you can't chop a tree down with it, but damn if that's not the most effective splitter I've ever seen.
Aspen would be the real test for that.
It's like rubber.

Most wood is easy to split. Let's see him do that with a piece of sweet gum tree.

iagree.gif or a fir with knots as big as your fist.

The tire idea is great if you have logs that fit inside it nicely, if they're too small they flop all over. I notice all the blocks he chopped were perfect size for the tire, that does make it easy.

Well, I won't be spending that much money on a new tool, but I think with a regular axe and a tire, one could get the same results.
