Even the statuette (Oscar) is a depiction of a knight (male? English? white?) gripping a crusader's sword. So, no real design changes in decades.

It is more to do with filmmaking, writing, directing and production...many creative and artistic fields.

Octo & I worked in the field for sometime. Aside from a select few shows that we occasionally watch, we don't have anything to do with it.
In reality, it's ikky politics and compromise to someone else's stupid agenda.

The PC is so boring.
The players here will never be silenced until Trump is in the white house.

Not every award season can have black nominees, its such a select few films and actors.. Chris rock is hosting, you know.. Oi vey..

yup.gif

It's the first one all over again. They destroy the death star 15.gif Throw in some basic believably issues, and yeah... it was a stinker.

I wasnt about to go and see it.. I saw carol the other day, the lesbian, cate blanchett film nominated a bit at the oscars.. It was ok.. No idea why its nominated, except that harvey Weinstein put it out, cough cough.. I still dont think the revenant should have been nominated either, it was ok. But not amazing..

Youth was good, with michael caine and harvey keitel.. Download it if available.. Here is the trailer..

The industry is not about making "amazing" it is about making money so they rehash every movie that ever still has name recognition or made money and redoing it using social rewiring of thinking in their updates and pushing whatever agenda fits the moment as they see it. Just my opinion. No new creative writing and no idea about excellence or future contributions to the list of those movies that truly exemplified fine movie making abilities and talent.

Oh Hollywood's just another multi-billion dollar business.

I love good movies and knowing enough of it I'm not too crazy about the Hollywood variety. Sure, they poop out a decent flick once in a blue moon, but you need to be on some drug to really get into it.

I love Russian movies, they make some really good movies totally lacking the Hollywood cookie cutter scripts. I watched some Iranian movies that we really good. Female directors too. There are many of them bringing up really controversial subjects. They also get shown on the big screen.

I'm just not that big on spectacles, just love a good story.

I totally agree. I like Australian, Irish, Polish movies, too. I will watch a small movie feature before a blockbuster any day. Actually one of my favorite American movies but a German director and really amazing cast was called Bagdad Café filmed in California. Have watched that movie maybe five times. Yes, that is how they spelled Bagdad in the movie. A British movie I liked was Ring of Bright Water.

In Park City, Utah wherein the Sundance Firm Festival is being held there have been a couple of movie wherein the more mature members have just up and walked out. One is about a corpse who (that?) perpetually passes gas and the other film has a most graphic male to male sex scene which was ill considered.

So I guess we will be having different choices to consider ?????????????
