That has probably to do with waste water I would think? I hear Fl. is pretty awful when it comes to that sort of thing. 13.gif

They have that here too, especially if you're close to water, which is basically everywhere around here. 13.gif

If a person is hooked up, they have to PAY the minimum usage fee. Where I live in FL the minimum is $52 a month. It's all about the Benjamins.

I pay for water here, but not trash pick up (go to the dump) or sewage (have a septic tank) our bill runs around 19USD a month.

But we have rain barrels we use for plants and garden and fish tanks.

Yes, the bill includes all three. The point is she will have to pay for all three whether she uses them or not once she is hooked up.

There's been a 'few' instances here where people were just dumping their septic into the lakes. I can see that as a problem.

It's all about control and money.

We pay $100 per month for water, the same for sewer and trash is more.

I've recently started researching for off-the-grid land specifically zoned as such in British Columbia, Canada. So far, it appears there are limited choices for us in B.C. near builtup areas, so the northern interior is promising as are the islands off B.C.'s southern coast but we'd be at the mercy of the ocean wild.

For Canadians:

Quote:The cheapest land is in northwestern Ontario or maritimes. Forget about BC unless you really want to get way off the beaten path like on the Cassiar highway.

Quote:Hi all…I’m in Southern Ontario right now, but I am born, raised, and have spent most of my life on Vancouver Island. Lasqueti Island is only one of 4 or 5 small islands off the coast of Van Isle where people go to live as off the grid as possible. Hornby, Denman, Quadra and to a lesser degree the Queen Charlottes ( Haida Gwaii ). There are benefits and disadvantages to all of these places, it’s basically what you want to invest of yourself….hard work will always be needed, but if you are willing there are huge personal benefits.
