The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has provided nearly $1 million in taxpayer funding since 2010 to “The Popular Romance Project,” an academic program to study the genre of popular romance fiction.

The Project aims to “explore the fascinating, often contradictory origins and influences of popular romance as told in novels, films, comics, advice books, songs, and internet fan fiction, taking a global perspective,” and will culminate with a 2015 documentary called “Love Between the Covers,” a “content-rich website,” an academic symposium, and a “nationwide series of library programs dealing with the past, present, and future of the romance novel.”

I would be interested in that study because I think I am a romantic, but have been in denial. And, if I were to take up writing, I would love to tackle writing about hot and steamy sexual yet highly romantic relationships and the emotional co-dependance that may exist. Very interesting. cheers.gif wave.gif

cultural pursuits can be funded independently ..our dollar is headed for a death spiral if we keep printing more money ..we can hardly pay the interest on our debt as it is now

our veterens just had their pensions cut..and our unemployed did not have their unemployment funds extended so they could buy food and pay for housing and folks receiving food stamps had their amount cut ..so how can the government justify spending money on cultural pursuits ??? blink.gif

Well, in re-reading your OP it appears this has been going on since 2010 and is classified as more an academic (scholarly) historical pursuit in the understanding of that particular genre.
