Theres two kinds of cold...with and without wind...and ice storms can be worse than snow storms and often they follow each other closely around here...

I live within the area colored in with a deceptively pretty shade of purple where 12 to 18 inches of snow is soon expected to fall upon us along with 30 mph winds and - 6 temperatures with a -17 wind chill > http://www.wcvb.com/

-59.8 (Fahrenheit?) is murderously damn cold and more or less unsurvivable for a person outside within it for even a little while not dressed for mountain climbing...

R U 2 living within (upon) the center, top or bottom of Finland?

Like wow look at all those (hundreds?) of bodies of water in southern Finland!!!

Massive crustal fracturing from a prehistoric asteroid impact?!

How the hell does anyone keep track of which ones which and all the thousands? of bridges that must be everywhere while walking and driving around?!

İmage

Smolensk, we're right on the west coast in the middle, about where it's closest to Sweden. So we're not getting too much of the extremes. But in the winter the temps drop about a degree per mile you go inland. Not this year though, it's not very cold anywhere. 13.gif

JB, seems this jet-stream is stuck in a rut. It would be ice with a change. Keep warm hug.gif

edit: omg I meant nice, but wrote ice damned.gif What does it mean?

Finland is known as the land of a thousand lakes, but there are in fact 187,888 lakes. These are mainly ice age remnants. Here's a little about our biggest lake system Saimaa. It even has its own species of ringed seal.

Just finished digging out from this monster snowstorm/blizzard thats effected around 80,000,000 people in about 20 states and killed 13 of them so far...

Where i live here in southern new england we received about 18 inches of snow along with numerous 4 foot deep wind driven drifts and some other local areas are beneath over 24 inches of new fallen snow with even deeper/taller drifting..

Now a brutal artic blast is assaulting us with -6 below zero temperatures along with 35 mph extremely frigid winds resulting in around -20 below zero wind chill...

Amazingly and rather strangely 2 days from now its going to be about 53 degrees...

And then 6 degrees the following night...

Whats up with that?!

Unbelievable...

Snow dumps here have been insane, my boss' husband is stuck in the mountains, can't get out and they have loaders, graders, caterpillars. Just too much snow.

The extreme cold and snow and ice really sux...

But the extreme heat and humidity sux oppositely but equally...

Spring and autumn are weatherly heavens on earth...

Natures calm before the inevitable hell storms are unleashed...

And warm star lit summer nights are best of all...

But they wouldnt be appreciated for what they are without winter...
