Marburg virus symptoms emerge in Uganda

Eight people in Uganda have developed symptoms of the Ebola-like Marburg disease and about 90 more people are under observation, a World Health Organization (WHO) representative said Tuesday.

"We cannot tell what lies ahead, but efforts should be stepped up in vigilance and to activate the existing hemorrhagic fever task forces," Wondimagegnehu said.

I turned myself to consider wisdom and madness and folly
The wise man’s eyes are in his head,
But the fool walks in darkness.
Yet I myself perceived
That the same event happens to them all.

Marburg: 11 suspects test negative

ELEVEN suspects whose samples were on Monday taken to the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe for testing after they developed signs of Marburg, have tested negative for the highly infectious virus.

Among those who tested negative include: the brother of the deceased, two suspects (health workers from Mildmay Uganda), seven suspects from Mpigi Health Center IV and two relatives of the deceased who participated in the burial.

A statement from the health ministry however, said that the suspects will continue to be monitored. Those who continue to have signs, tests will be run again after three days.

Seems it may be hard to determine in its early stages.

Just came across this...

Quote:a disease that sounds very similar to Ebola and Marburg has popped up in Venezuela and doctors down there do not know what it is...

"We do not know what it is," admitted Duglas León Natera, president of the Venezuelan Medical Federation.

In its initial stages, the disease presents symptoms of fever and spots on the skin, and then produces large blisters and internal and external bleeding, according to data provided week stop by the College of Physicians of the state of Aragua, where the first cases were reported.

Then, very quickly, patients suffer from respiratory failure, liver failure and kidney failure. Venezuelan doctors have not been able to determine what the disease is, much less how to fight it.

chuckle.gif Whenever any real threat has passed. It's too bad they can't treat it like terrorism so we could exchange more freedoms for protection from the virus.

And the more desperate to have it. We'll see what happens. Also occurred to me it's just in time for a market meltdown, Japan and Germany both announcing triple dip recessions today. Nothing to see here....
