Back to the hospital in the morning for more surgery. gaah.gif

Best case scenario: 6-8 more weeks out of work...

All because of an arrogant ER doctor that refused to get a surgical consultation and an RN that used absolutely no sterile technique and was most likely the cause of the infection. If the hospital and surgeon's employers (He is a contract employee through an outside company.) don't make this right, I guess we will have to consult with an attorney.

gaah.gif I was wondering what was up, but I just figured you guys were busy. This type of thing can be really bad news, infections are one of the medical industries dirty little secrets. Hope all goes well and like Octo said our best wishes and thoughts to Scrappy grouphug.gif

Thanks a lot guys!

Don't sweat it GH. It was funny! Laughter is good medicine!

This has been a fairly stressful 10 days. It got much more stressful when the doctor told us another 6 weeks or more.

Hopefully, this will be resolved fairly quickly. The er doc not actually being employee of the hospital will help. The other surgeons and docs will not line up to kiss his ass and bury this. They have all spoken out about it.

One cool thing is, the doctor from the wound clinic that will be performing her surgery will be treating her in a hyperbolic chamber starting tomorrow! Two hours a day, five days a week. They are finally getting the benefits of Oxygen!

Oh yeah, I also get to say "I told you so." again! (I told them not to play paintball in that area and that someone would get hurt.)

Sometimes it sucks being right...

Just a little more info. This is more than just a cut.

She has been told several times by other surgeons that this was handled completely wrong by the er doc. He should have immediately sent her to surgery and let his arrogance get in the way of good patient care.

This actually started with the nurse. She came in and picked up a basin that had instruments in it and removed the instruments with her bare hand. (It was kind of a kit they put together to be ready for emergencies.) Then she walks over to the sink and fills it with tap water and soap. That is what she used to rinse the wound! Not sterile water. No gloves. No sterile procedure at all. Then she claimed that it is their normal procedure. So, all of those contaminants were introduced to her wound (Which, by the way, is three centimeters deep, yes three centimeters, it goes to the bone and even her bone is scratched. We will try to get a pic posted.) and then the doc comes in and stitches the surface leaving a big ass pocket for them to fester in.

Oh yeah, the tendon that attaches to the muscle that you use to raise your toes toward your knee was severed. If the er doc had sent her straight to surgery, this would have been caught and repaired. That is part of what the surgeon will try to fix today. Also, this muscle not only pulls your toes toward your knee, it keeps them from dropping down. That comes in handy when walking.
