The big employers are starting to move in labor from Mexico and Africa, sometimes as slaves.

Or the jobs offered are pretty bad, 12 hour days with no time off for 7 months and only because the job is ended.

Horrible. Sounds like similar conditions to what Asian berry pickers endure coming to Scandinavia for picking season. sad2.gif

This in the news today alone...

From Tuesday mail workers begin covering new daytime delivery routes, to accommodate some of the 500 job cuts that postal services company Itella is making.

It's 3:30 pm and our mail hasn't arrived yet time.gif

Industrial bakery Vaasan Oy has launched co-determination talks that could slash close to 100 jobs in order to offset flat sales

Had an interesting chat with my Mom last week, we don't often talk about politics or economics because she's tired of me not buying into her ultra-socialist thinking. But we got onto the subject of Ukraine, I said I thought the IMF was going after the 'low-hanging fruit' of European countries with the capacity for more debt.

She said: "Do you know where that term comes from? Low-hanging fruit?"

I said I thought it came from the easiest to reach ripest fruit on the tree.

She said "No. It comes from when they hung runaway slaves in the deep South USA. When the blacks hung dead from the trees they were called 'low hanging fruit'.

I've been sort of turning that over in my mind.

It's quite possible your mom is right. I can't think of an expression to match it from here. hmm.gif

I'm thinking it has double meaning. Yes 'low hanging fruit' is the easiest to reach, but the added meaning of ...... 13.gif how can I say this. Hanging the runaway slaves made it easier to control the masses. So the rebels are low-hanging fruit.

Still mulling this over. coffeetime.gif

I see the economic downturn here in Canada as well, and we fully expect our children to come and go from our home during the course of their lives as a respite to either recover financially from job loss/change or relationship breakup. We have discussed this at length and so when we change our lifestyle or place of residence during retirement, the home we select will always have a guest room ready for family or friends who have nowhere else to go.

This looks like a trend that could grow by leaps and bounds in the coming months and years.

Pray for me. hug.gif

Had to go back twice in my life, not in many years though.

And more and more investors are buying up real estate because they can get a loan, and more and more people are paying rent.

Not looking good right now.

I turned myself to consider wisdom and madness and folly
The wise man’s eyes are in his head,
But the fool walks in darkness.
Yet I myself perceived
That the same event happens to them all.
