Not heard of those, but these are traditional for up here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semla

Quote:Today, the Swedish-Finnish semla[5] consists of a cardamom-spiced wheat bun which has its top cut off, and is then filled with a mix of milk and almond paste, topped with whipped cream. The cut-off top serves as a lid and is dusted with powdered sugar.

In Finland the traditional dessert predates Christian influences.

Life is like a penny, you can spend it on what you like, but you can ONLY spend it once.

We avoid sweets too, but I never avoid buying paczki. It's just the way it is. Also, my son's girlfriend (who seems to be here every day 13.gif) is an excellent baker and there are goodies all over the house. gaah.gif
