“You’ll certainly be hearing more about it,” Jason Furman, the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, told reporters Monday at a Wall Street Journal event.

Liberals in Congress have been stepping up their pressure on the White House to seek a hike in the minimum wage, which they argue would provide immediate economic stimulus while combatting income inequality.

Obama urged lawmakers during January’s State of the Union address to boost the wage from $7.25 to $9 per hour and index it so that it rises with inflation.http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/bu...wage-focus

That's still embarrassingly low in comparison to other Western countries.

Even at $9.00 an hour, one would still have to work at least 2-3 jobs to survive. Slavery never really went away I guess.

that would be 13 yearolds working at mcdonalds??

its $17 in OZ.. which is what laundry workers get paid..

retail jobs in a clothes shop must be at about $20 an hour?? who could work for less than that??

I knew IT guys in the States then only made about $20 an hour. The thing is, it's all lopsided. Employees making 40,000 a year and CEO's pulling down half a million a year.
That was about the way it worked in a lot of small businesses.

Yeah right. Because we all know how awesomely well it works whenever the state tries to artificially control market forces by decree.
