Sober footage from those that were there. I can only imagine how conflicted they felt.

Thanks for sharing, Ocker.

7800 houses completely destroyed and and most of the CBD, all the land that those house were on is now "Red Zoned " and just park land both sides of the River Avon

still hundreds of people V insurance cos , roads still not fixed , its very tiring -- then we just had them scrub fires

Yeah, maybe the name is off just a bit.
Change that to New Pompeii to ward off this thing.

I think they should have initially built earthquake-resistant structures considering New Zealand is on major fault lines. Or, am I being naive?

It is interesting to note that Lockwood homes in NZ held strong during that earthquate and Cyclone Pat.

Quote:Recent proof of this came from the Lockwood homes in Christchurch. An estimated 6000 homes were damaged by the 7.1 quake, while their neighbouring Lockwoods stood strong. Lockwood homes withstood Cyclone Pat, which caused damage to 60% of homes in Rarotonga in February, with many flattened and others that disappeared entirely. When Inglewood was hit by a tornado, the Wilson family’s Lockwood remained intact while homes only 100m away lost roofs, windows and walls. - See more at: http://lockwood.co.nz/About-us/Earthquak...CQLin.dpuf
