TOWAMENCIN TWP., Pa. - October 9, 2013 (WPVI) -- A decision to cancel Halloween celebrations at an elementary school in Montgomery County is stirring controversy among some parents.

Parents received a letter Tuesday from the principal at Inglewood Elementary School.

The school is located in Towamencin Township, near Lansdale, and is part of the North Penn School District.

The letter, obtained by Action News and signed by the school's principal, Orlando Taylor, announces Taylor's decision not to hold Halloween parades or celebrations at the school this year.http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?sectio...id=9280438

Quote:Before Christianity became ascendant in the West, Halloween—more traditionally called by its Celtic name, Samhain (pronounced swain)—marked a seasonal change and a time to honor the spirits of departed relatives. Thanks to the growing numbers of modern U.S. soldiers who practice Wicca, Neopaganism, and other nature-based traditions, Halloween is recognized as a religious festival in the military, and is probably in line to become the nation’s next major faith-based holiday.

It's not like they are celebrating this faith as it was originally intended, so I think this one Principal is taking things too far, but then again, she is only following government policy. The government needs to rewrite this section to be more specific, in that, putting on a halloween costume, etc. does not constitute practising this particular faith.

There's nothing different about Halloween this year than last, except this year there will be no recognizing it. Poor kids.

No more looking forward to dressing up in scary costumes?!

No more hoping and dreaming of receiving lots of candy?!

No more designing and carving pumpkins?!

What the f##k are we gonna do now?!

Stare at the wall and listen to our teeth grow?!

The narrow minded bastards who sit around and think up these oppressive strangulating laws and rules and regulations are so trapped and lost in denial they make me wanna vomit...

Heres a twist I don't know if they do this in your area, but here the Churches do 'Trunk or Treat' They back there cars up around the perimeter of the church parking lot, with the trunks open and decorated with Halloween stuff. Each owner supplies candy and the Church has a Big cook out for the community at no charge, No sermons involved and the Kids walk around and Trick or Treat at the peoples cars.

I take my kids there, walk around with a Big Gulp cup full of Vodka and eat BBQ chuckle.gif
