thousands of doctors fired by united healthcare

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)-- In the midst of major changes in health care, United HealthCare has sent thousands of pink slips to Connecticut doctors.

Termination letters went to physicians caring for Medicare patients.

Those letters were sent out to doctors caring for 'Medicare Advantage' patients.

It's a plan, marketed to Seniors to provide additional services through UnitedHealthCare.

A mix of primary care and specialty doctors are affected by it. And it comes at a questionable time.

Open enrollment for Medicare starts next Tuesday, and it's still not clear at this time as to which doctors are still in the United network.

The Connecticut State Medical Society is fighting back. The biggest concern is patient access to healthcare.

"What the government is looking for is to manage better care by adding a patient centered medical home so that you have a doctor who is totally invested with taking care of every aspect of the patient and coordinating it. This is clearly not a patient centered decision," said Dr. Michael Saffir, President of CT State Medical Society.

Dr. Saffir says the State Medical Society is in contact with UnitedHealthcare. They are also asking doctors to call United to find out why they were terminated without cause as notified in the letter.http://nation.foxnews.com/2013/10/11/tho...healthcare

It's the greatest healthcare system in the world, and that's what they said before the ACA. lmao.gif

The problem ls that Leftists (socialists) refuse to pull their head out...

Failure after failure just isn't enough proof.

Jimmy Carter and gasoline were an abject lesson.

Yet still people think the heavy hand of government is better at allocating medical care than the invisible hand of capitalism.

ACA will make care strangely allocated and more expensive. And the left will lie and lie like always, and say we are getting a better deal.

You need to clarify your statement. AMERICAN socialist H/C, not the rest of the OECD.

Note this is 2007, well before the un-ACA

Might be a silly question, but can doctors in America run their own private practice. Operating outside of "obamaDON'TCARE" Can they set up their own contracts with drug makers if need be? Or can doctors unionize similar to writers/directors/actors gilds in hollywood? They seem to get what the want.

Might be the best thing for the doctors, they can now operate independently outside of a large corporation.

I think they're free to set up private practices and charge whatever. Don't know about drug companies though. I really don't understand why Americans pay twice the price of meds. Money of course, but that's outrageous. 13.gif

Saw this elsewhere,,,did some digging,,,last night,,,

find out what is up,,,2200 doctors/specialists,,,

what is up,,,is,,,money,,,surprise,,,sure they will be

donating to their favorites,,,in the mean time,,,not good news,,,

keep the "efficient" doctors,,,get rid of the other ones,,,

remember a Russian I worked with telling me the doctor in their

smaller town,,,would see you for five minutes,,,give you pills,,,

maybe worked,,,maybe not,,,starting to understand,,,the doctors

quiting,,,another thing that has been bugging me,,,

UHC is moving on getting rid of certain staff, in order to improve its eligibility for Federal bonuses in reimbursements from the CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services), which under Obamacare, now operates a doctor-ranking program, called Five Stars, which will be tightened in 2014. UHC got $540 mil in Federal bonus awards in 2012 from the Advantage Stars program, which made UHC the biggest recipient of all U.S. private insurers, according to Kaiser Health News. Under Obamacare, doctors in the privatized Medicare programs are graded on how "effective" they are relative to suppression of follow-up visits, number of patients seen, etc.

Key input to the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act came directly from top United Healthcare executive Simon Stevens, who formerly was Tony Blair's health adviser. British national Stevens, not only designed the infamous 1999 NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) to restrict treatments by the NHS (National Health Service) in the U.K., but also led the way for privatizing key parts of the NHS. Plum NHS programs were handed over to United Healthcare U.K., for whom Stevens worked at the time in the mid-2000s.

It's not even up and running yet you judge it based on changes providers are making? As with any new system/overhaul the road is going to be bumpy at first but lets just call it a failure before it even starts eh? ...because that is one of the many lies being spread that unfortunately it seems the majority of you all are swallowing without the least bit of reasoning or common sense applied.

Why do you even care so much Jay? It's not like you live here...
