I've been walking a lot with Mason. Spending time in nature is healing the soul and I wanted to share some pics from around town.
Yesterday it was raining for a while, but after it stopped we took a walk around town.
Anthriscus sylvestris or Queen Anne's lace blooming in the foreground, Bird cherry in full bloom as a backdrop and wild strawberries blooming on the rock. Everything is blooming!
Red currant bush in bloom in the foreground
View across the river with some sweet smelling bird cherry flowers
Lamium album, also known as dead-nettle, in the foreground. The flowers have sweet tasting nectar inside and we used to suck on them when we were kids. Bumble bees and other pollinators love them too.
The red trees across the river are Acer platanoides 'Schwedleri', we call them blood maples
View up the river. The tulips in the foreground plantation are just about done, soon other plants are going to start their flowering.
This sadly neglected yard right by the river is full of wild flowers. I think the yellow in the foreground is Genista, but I'm not sure...
Edit to add: Turns out this is Ribes Aureum, or golden currant.
These pics were snapped yesterday along a stretch of about 400 meters.
Today the weather was gorgeous and I snapped more photos. These photos are in a huge format if you click on them.
enjoyed the pics
feels like we took the walk with ya (& mason)
heh
Well today was a beautiful, sunny and warm day (+17C is warm, yes)
I let Mason decide where to go some days and it was his turn today.
First we ran into this apple tree in full bloom, it was buzzing with bumble bees. One of the bumble bees got annoyed with me getting too close and it told me to gtfo without getting aggressive.
A couple of blocks up the street we pass this inviting entrance to a mysterious overgown garden. Nobody lives there.
At this point we're close to my niece's house and her wonderful garden so we head that way...
certainly is a beautiful season there..
here is mostly forest which has a different wild kind of beauty
Well we have forest here too as you know, but this is downtown in my tiny little neck of the woods
yes..but you don't have bears come to your window like i did..& deer strolling by the house plus other wildlife included..heh
am jealous tho about the beauty of your lil neck of the woods
No, not to the window thank god, I live on the second floor!
But woods surround this town and you'll find bears, moose, lynx, deer, wolves, wolverines and all sorts of wild things in there. A couple of years back there was a wolf issue around here where they were sighted in populated areas, they killed farm foxes and yard dogs and were spotted close to houses and people and generally too close for comfort.
have all the animals you listed here too plus coyotes
and cougars
etc..
A couple of years back there was a wolf issue around here where they were sighted in populated areas,
i recall the thread you & jr did on that/y'all were excited/nervous about that
the difference is that here that's just par for the course..wolves being around/near
Yeah they're near here too, but they should fear people and not lounge around in backyards
communities like yours are the invasion..not the wolves
No actually it's the other way around. This town was founded in 1620
