Liz Truss has dramatically resigned as prime minister, breaking a near-200 year record to become Britain’s shortest ever leader.
The PM brought her tumultuous 44-day premiership to an end after frenzied plotting among her own MPs, who lost faith in her ability to govern following a disastrous ‘mini-budget’ and days of chaos at the heart of government.
Now, a day after she said ‘I am a fighter not a quitter’, Britain is set to have a new leader within a week.
On the steps of Downing Street, the PM told the nation that she recognised, ‘given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.
The late queen is turning over in her grave!
It feels like it's all freestyle circus around the planet at this point in time.
